Meet the Coaches
The Lady Canes volleyball program is one big family, literally. The Chinchar Family ( Douglas, Sarah, and kids Naomi, and Lydia ) have been a part of the Canes volleyball program for the past six years. The Chinchars were brought in during the 2009 season to bring The Lady Canes volleyball program to another level and that’s exactly what they did. Both Douglas and Sarah come with loads of playing and coaching experience.
Douglas had a stellar playing career at The Ohio State University, where he was named The Volleyball Monthly Freshman Find, and brought home an Olympic Festival Gold medal in 1989 (a prelude to the Olympics). Sarah is a home town hero who played at The University of South Florida where she set about every setting record, and still holds 3 NCAA current records.
Coaching came easy for the both of them as they were trained by some of the world’s elite coaches. Douglas started coaching club in 1990, and later took his first college job in 1993 ( Brescia University ), where he was the youngest head coach in the country at 23 years old. He moved on to Wichita State University in 1995. In 1998 Douglas took a year off to recover from a car accident. It was off to Florida to recover, where he met his future wife, and started Big Dawg and SandSpur Volleyball. Sarah coached at The University of South Florida for 1 year, before leaving to start the Chinchar Volleyball Adventure.
