Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School Hurricanes – 2017 Baseball Regional Finals Champions

With a second trip to the state finals in three years on the line, the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School Hurricanes faced district rival Cambridge Christian Lancers in the 3A Regional Finals.
Bishop struck first on a sharp ground ball to second base by Paul Coumoulos, scoring Bryce Carroll. In the third inning, Adam Barry took advantage of a wild pitch to advance from first to third base, ultimately scoring on an errant catcher throw to third base, giving the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead. The Lancers struck back in the fourth inning with a run of their own, knotting the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Zach Berglund’s sacrifice fly to right field gave the Hurricanes a 3-2 lead, scoring Chris Berglund with what proved to be the game winning RBI. Manny Sado started and pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up a single run. Hunter Gillespie pitched the final 4 2/3, relinquishing a single unearned run while striking out four.
Bishop McLaughlin next competes at the 2017 FHSAA 3A State Finals on Friday, May 26th at 1pm at Centurylink Sports Complex in Ft. Myers, FL. Details are available at the FHSAA Website.
